By Time Life Books World War II series
Can you guess what this volume looks at? Well it’s more that just going across a river. This volume covers the build up and initial thrust for the Allies to push into Germany for the final drive towards Berlin. The photo essays in the volume are really amazing. There is one that covers the build up of materials leading to the start of the drive. The amount of goods stockpiled and organized into vast open fields are staggering. On a more somber note the push into Germany exposed the concentration camps and these are also covered in the later pages.
I like it that this series is so long. It gives the editors the ability to cover World War II from many different aspects. I’ve been looking at the titles to come and there is quite a range of more specialized books focusing on smaller battles. See War in the Outposts.
