John NanceWow, what a story. The Last Hostage, while unbelievable in the extreme, to me at least, was quite the aviation thriller. It had everything you expect from a John Nance novel. A hijacked plane (737), full of passengers, being flown around the southwestern United States, evading the authorities. The hijacker demands that the FBI arrest and prosecute a killer who has been let free. AirBridge 90 has been hijacked by the flights Captain.
What?
Yeah it's an odd premise for a story but you know, I really enjoyed this book. It was fast paced and suspenseful. I also started to feel sympathy for the Captain, whose young daughter was murdered. His goal, while oddly executed, is to bring the murderer to justice. The story has quite a few plot twists. If you have ever seen the movie Murder by Death, well then you know what I'm talking about when I say that you will not be able to guess at who the murderer is until it's revealed. But you can sure enjoy the ride to find out.
From looking ahead at some of the other John Nance books that I have left to read, the FBI agent, Kat Bronsky, will be a recurring character. Hopefully this will allow her character to continue to develop as opposed to the fairly shallow characters in some of the other Nance books. Only time will tell.
