Digital Fortress

By Dan Brown

People give Dan Brown a lot of crap about his books. I’ve read comments about how some of the science in Digital Fortress isn’t correct. Like I care. Well I guess it all depends on what you know. If it was about airplanes and something was wrong I’d probably be complaining. I say you know what you’re getting into when you pick up this book and if you don’t like it, don’t read it. Oh yeah I also picked this one up at the airport. What you think I spend all my money on books?

A fast paced book with many short chapters that keeps the suspense up and makes the ability to put down the book difficult. Speaking of short chapters. What gives? Okay, yes it helps to keep you reading. You think well this chapter is only 2 pages long. But then it ends on a cliffhanger and you think well the next chapter in only 3 pages long. But wait. The next chapter jumps to a different character. So you read through it thinking that the third chapter in line will get back to the cliffhanger. But no! The next chapter is a jump to a different scene and a different character. Many plot lines can be kept alive at the same time but it does make me a little bit frustrated. The good news is that every book that I’ve read like this is an easy read so it’s only a handful of hours until you finish the book and are satisfied. A plot that could be plausible, until it’s stretched a little too far is another feature of Dan Browns books. Well okay none of the other plots (Deception Point , Angels & Demons, The Da Vinci Code are really that plausable.

I think people are just kidding themselves if they think the government hasn’t either thought of something like translator or built it. Remember Echelon or Carnivore? Digital Fortress is a movie in a book, a book that’s written to be made into a movie. A least there isn’t a parachuting priest.
